Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CEO and member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Fundraising, Marketing & Communications Lead, will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising, marketing and communications strategic plans and agreed income targets.

This broad and impactful role will provide you with an opportunity to directly impact the lives of South Africa’s most vulnerable children – your main KPI will be delivering HOPE and an IMPROVED FUTURE for communities across our nation.

You will achieve this through both hands-on involvement and managing a team to build and manage relationships with, and make applications to, corporate donors, grant-making organizations, trusts, foundations, HNWI’s and the general public.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate previous experience of working successfully in fundraising and/or sales with evidence of setting, working to and achieving financial targets within deadlines and budgets, experience of managing relationships at varying levels and the ability to write persuasive and compelling copy together with presentations and pitches.

The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

MARKETING and COMUNICATIONS:

  • Marketing – in support of WVSA’s fundraising strategy build and implement a multichannel marketing strategy to engage potential donors
  • Communications – build brand awareness and relevance through developing and implementing a communications strategy that promotes our authenticity, trustworthiness and contribution to a better South Africa

FUNDRAISING:

  • Create and execute ambitious and achievable annual and long-term plans for fundraising across the organization.
  • Design and implement strategies to establish relationships, build value-add partnerships and secure funding from International bilateral and multilateral donor and national foundations, corporates, government and individual donor sources.
  • Set, implement and manage lead generation, contacts, conversion etc. metrics and targets for team
  • Lead the development of partner/donor market analysis and clear engagement strategies inclusive of partner/donor segmentation, customized messaging and frequency of contact
  • Direct all activities, including identifying opportunities and prospecting, implementing targeted strategies for each opportunity, and soliciting and stewarding donors
  • Create a donor/partner relationship database/client relationship management system
  • Lead the development and internal coordination of grant proposals and value-add partnerships in close collaboration with internal technical specialists and finance

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Exhibit a passion for the mission of World Vision South Africa and effectively advocate for the organization with a variety of external audiences
  • Initiate new and deepen existing funder and donor relationships, ensuring a strong and diverse base of organizational supporters
  • Supervise the design, implementation and timing of all donor-communications programs

DEPARTMENTAL LEADERSHIP

  • Supervise and coach Fundraising department staff directly
  • Prepare and monitor Fundraising departments annual expense budget and revenue forecasts, and provide accurate tracking and projections for budgetary and financial reports

  • Meet with Regional Leaders, Boards, and VFI leadership to identify and determine skills, knowledge, capabilities and preferred experience required for the position, including contextual challenges.  Lead them in assessing vacancy requirements/recruiting needs and developing recruitment strategies and plans for the coming fiscal year.
  • In conjunction with the Sourcing Specialist, conduct sourcing research and talent mapping including initial candidate profiles to share with Regional Leaders, Boards, and other hiring managers in order to set expectations and advise about the relevant candidate pools/labour markets, and adjust requirements as needed.
  • Contribute to position and candidate description (JDPDQ) including the client priorities and skill sets that will focus the search.
  • Provide full cycle recruitment process support to hiring managers and P&C staff.
  • Anticipate emerging organizational staffing trends and external market trends in regards to senior leadership NGO roles.
  • Proactively identify and develop effective sourcing strategies for ND and VFI leadership positions, manage the various leadership sourcing pools, referral networks and talent pipelines by region (e.g. networking contacts, cold calling, system queries/searches, religious institutions, organizations, social media, college/university alumni.)

Candidate Screening, Interview and Assessment

  • Maintain knowledge of and sensitivity to the constantly changing environment of the marketplace relative to the sourcing and recruitment of qualified leaders.
  • Conduct effective screening, in-depth interviewing (including Topgrading and Targeted Selection methodologies), and assessments against necessary job experiences, skills, leadership requirements, and contextual and organizational fit to find the best candidates for each position, including leaders who are spiritually strong and aligned with the organisation’s ethos as stated in the Mission Statement and Core Values.
  • Present and lead long and short list meetings of candidates to include background, fit to the position description, compensation information, possible recruitment issues, and overall recommendation.
  • Serve as an advisor and partner to Regions, Boards and other hiring managers, guiding them on appropriate assessment steps, interview panel member selection, and design of interview questionnaires and candidate presentations.
  • Coordinate international interviews (both virtual and in-person) for short-listed candidates with the Regions, selected panels, and other hiring managers, as well as final ND interviews with the President’s Office.
  • Participate and facilitate virtual and in-person panel interviews and lead debriefing selection process, when possible.
  • Conduct in-depth reference checks and validate against additional sources, as well as coordinate background screening (e.g. police, child protection, etc.) for finalist candidates.
  • Provide feedback to candidates on interview results and selection decisions in a constructive way. Particularly with internal candidates, facilitate feedback and learning discussions and connect staff with appropriate professional development advisors/contacts and tools.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Run  the Chief Audit Executive’s (CAE) office administratively  in a highly professional, efficient and effective manner, including but not limited to:

  • Monitor the CAE’s inbox, actioning items where possible, forwarding to appropriate GIA leadership or escalating to the CAE.
  • Proactively complete expense reports for Chief Audit Executive, reconciling corporate card charges monthly.
  • Set up and execute on the GIA annual calendar, taking it into consideration for planning and diary management.
  • Logistical arrangements for quarterly Audit and Risk Board Committee meetings, and support in preparing all Board Committee documentation, minutes etc.
  • Proactively planning and arranging GIA leadership meetings including travel where required.
  • Drafting of minutes, reports, powerpoint presentations on content provided by CAE and GIA leadership.
  • Provide logistical support for domestic and international meetings/events teaming with other support staff as appropriate and/or assigned.
  • Reviews CAE’s Direct Reports expense reports for her approval.
  • Process team documentation for staff contract renewals and related admin.
  • Some administration support for the Global Director GC Audit and Operations and Director of Global Investigations

Minimum Requirements…

KNOWLEDGE/QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

Required Professional Experience:

  •   At least 3-5 years’ experience working in a fast paced, high performing executive assistant role or similar.
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team
  • Strong customer service skills; excellence in working with staff from diverse personal styles, cultures, and geographic locations.
  • Multi-tasker who stays flexible in a fluctuating work environment and displays grace under pressure.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and use independent judgment and discretion.
  • Able to work virtually and independently with limited direction for much of the working week.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification:

  • Diploma in office management or similar field. Bachelor’s degree would be an advantage not a requirement if experience compensates for lack of formal training.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least 8 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, broadcast, and/or new media. International work experience. Fieldwork experience preferred. Background/familiarity in emergency context.
